Why the action was brought
A coalition of 50 attorneys general settled with Equifax over the 2017 data breach affecting more than 147 million Americans. Breached information included Social Security numbers, names, dates of birth, addresses, credit card numbers and some driver's license numbers. The states alleged the breach occurred because Equifax failed to implement an adequate security program.
