Why the action was brought
The States alleged that Defendants’ computer systems experienced data theft in or about May 2015 involving electronic protected health information and other personal information. The investigation alleged multiple violations of HIPAA, state deceptive trade practices, personal-information-protection, and breach-notification laws, including inadequate safeguards for collecting, maintaining, and securing consumers’ information. Defendants denied the allegations.
